David Carl Courreges joined De Leon & Washburn, P.C. in 2006. Mr. Courreges' practice includes Legislative and Governmental Affairs, Administrative Law, and Mediation. He has nearly a decade of experience working with the Texas Legislature, first as the legislative director for the current chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, then as the legislative director and general counsel for the current chairman of the Legislative Study Group, and now as an advocate effectively representing the interest of his clients before the Legislature and associated agencies.
Mr. Courreges has been given the unique opportunity to share his legislative experience in the classroom as an adjunct professor at St. Mary’s University where he currently teaches a graduate level course in legislative policy and procedure. He has also helped create, and is the on-site administrator for the Frank J. Madla and Irma Rangel Legislative Internship Program sponsored by St. Mary’s University.
Mr. Courreges was recently elected Secretary of the Texas Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors. A member of the Board since 2007, he has assisted in the development and distribution of several law-focused education projects, including the award-winning Vote America! Honor the Fight, Exercise Your Right, You’re Hired, Now What? , and They Had A Dream Too! For his efforts, he received the 2008 TYLA President’s Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service, and TYLA President’s Awards of Merit in both 2007 and 2009.
In addition, Mr. Courreges is Vice President of the St. Mary's University Law Alumni Association, of which he has been a member since 2006, and is Secretary of the Austin Chapter of the St. Mary's University Law Alumni Association. He is active in the Austin Young Lawyer's Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas, Leadership Austin, and Volunteer Legal Services.
Mr. Courreges earned his J.D. and MPA from St. Mary's University in May of 2005, and his B.A. in Government and History from the University of Texas in December, 2000. During law school, he served his fellow students as the President of the Student Bar Association and was the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, including the University Presidential Medal, the Law Alumni Association/Campus Ministries Leadership Award, and the ALI-ABA Scholarship and Leadership Award.
