Courreges Takes Office as Youngest President of
St. Mary's University Law Alumni Association
De Leon & Washburn attorney David C. Courreges has taken office as President of the St. Mary’s University Law Alumni Association for the 2011-2012 bar year. At thirty-four, he is the youngest president of the Association in the past twenty five years, and has been a member of the Association’s Board of Directors since 2006.
A 2005 graduate, Courreges served as president of the School of Law’s Student Bar Association in 2004-2005. Today he leads the governmental and legislative affairs division at the Austin law firm of De Leon & Washburn where he practices in the areas of administrative law, association law and mediation. He is also an adjunct professor at St. Mary’s where he teaches a graduate level course in legislative policy and procedure, and helped create the Frank J. Madla and Irma Rangel Legislative Internship Program.
In addition to his service to St. Mary’s, Courreges co-chairs the Legislative Committee of the Austin Bar Association and is a director on the Austin Young Lawyers Association Board of Directors. He recently completed his term as Vice President and member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Young Lawyers Association.
The St. Mary’s Law Alumni Association is dedicated to supporting the St. Mary’s University School of Law by raising scholarship funds and serving students through programs and mentoring opportunities. Recent presidents of the Association include Elizabeth Caples Rogers ‘88, Jeffrey R. Davis ‘91, Judge Barbara P. Hervey ‘79, and Justice Sandee Bryan Marion ‘80, among others.
De Leon & Washburn, P.C. was founded in 1977 by Hector De Leon. Since its inception, the firm's practice has included insurance, health, employee benefits issues, trade association and corporate law, as well as legislative affairs services.. The firm's clients include companies, third party administrators and employers desiring representation on corporate, regulatory and employee benefits issues, including ERISA matters.
